Resource Saturdays: Creative Writing Prompts

Howdy!

Today I have an interesting one for you. Creative Writing Prompts is a website that has 346 writing prompts. You just hover your mouse over one of the numbers on the site and the prompt pops up in a tip window. I think this is a cool way to do it, so you don’t see the prompt ahead of time and you have to pick at random.

(I’ve also added links to my Resources page.)

WriteSparks!

Creative Writing Prompts

There’s also a software available on this website for writing prompts. You can download the Lite version for free which is pretty cool or you can, of course, purchase the Gold version for $50.00 or the Premium version for $77.00. Each version includes some pluses and free upgrades, etc. Check out WriteSparks! and test drive the Lite to see if you like it.

From the Creative Writing Prompts website:

Use the creative writing prompts and creative writing ideas to create stories, poems and other creative pieces from your imagination. The writing prompts can even help you come up with creative content for blogs and blog stories.

Check it out and see what sparks your interest.

Don’t forget to share your work with me, I’d love to see it. If I like yours, I’ll post it on my blog for all to see. 🙂

Happy Writing!

Resource Saturdays: Scribble

Hey Everyone!

This week I want to share a cool writing tool that I have had bookmarked for a while now. This tool is brought to us by the same guy who made The Story Starter tool. It’s easy to use and pretty helpful.

(I’ve also added links to my Resources page.)

Scribble

Scribble

In April 2012, I shared the Story Starters website with you guys as a great online resource to give you a kick in the pants when you’re trying to think of something to write.  The Scribble website challenges you to create as many words as you can from the random set of letters that get generated when you click the button. However, you could use these randomly generated letters for almost anything! Each letter could be the start of a line in a poem. Each letter could be the start of a paragraph, chapter, sentence, or whatever else you can think of. Depending on what I’m working on, I use this tool for various purposes.

Sometimes, I have been staring at my project for so long, that I just need to put it aside and do something else for a bit. This is a great quick mind-clearing exercise to just write whatever comes to your mind instead of hammering away at your mind-numbing project for just a moment or two. 🙂

From the Scribble website:

Scribble is a word game for kids, adults, families, and classrooms. The goal is to create as many words as you can using the ten letters that are randomly generated in the box. Just scribble down the words on a piece of paper as fast as you can think of them. You can even make it into a contest with your family, classmates or friends. Make up your own rules!

BEWARE: There are 141,167,095,653,376 possible combinations of letters!
(Yes, that’s more than 141 TRILLION combinations.)

See what you can cook up with this generator. Don’t forget to share your work with me, I’d love to see it. If I like yours, I’ll post it on my blog for all to see. 🙂

Happy Writing!

She Sits: A Poem

She Sits

She is sitting

Sitting in simplicity

Sitting in silence

Moving gently when the air pushes her

Bathing in the glow of the life-giving sun

She is silk to touch, satin to feel

Divine in all her perfection is she

The grass and weeds that surround her

Bend and stand in the breeze

As if bowing, paying homage to her beauty

Trees bend over her, protecting her

From the elements that could harm

But letting the sun beams filter through

Her face is forever raised to the sky

The very ground is her altar of worship

Many pass by her without a second glance

No passing word of greeting or phrase

No one caresses her nor bends

To catch the scent of her

And still she sits

In simplicity

In silence

In beauty

She sits

005: A Poem

Hello Readers and Writers!

A few years ago I did an exercise where I wrote one poem each day for 30 days. All 30 of these will appear in my upcoming book ‘Life and in Between’ along with many other short stories, poems and fiction pieces. This is one of my favorites, so I wanted to share it with you. This is titled 005 because it was (obviously) day 5 of the 30 day exercise. 🙂

Poetry was my first love, my first published work was poetry. I believe poetry is as close to a person’s soul as you can get. It’s real and it’s raw and good poetry speaks to you in some way. I hope this one speaks to you.

From within spaces

I created elements

Burst of glowing stardust

Where I danced

Everything: A Poem

Hello Readers and Writers!

I am putting together a new book called “Life and In Between”. It’s a collection of flash and micro fiction as well as short stories and poetry written by yours truly. In going through some materials, I found something I wanted to share. I hope you like it!

Everything

Bring me to my knees in sweet, sweet agony

Shining so bright, you shine down on me.

My guiding light, yes, you lead me

I put my hand in yours

You take me blindly.

In a field of poppies you are a violet

A flower still but much more yet.

A snowflake falling so gently

Slowly, softly you touch me.

The blanket I hold close for security

My eyes, when I cannot see.

Everything different, everything brave

Bursting out of me

Is everything you gave.

Today’s OneWord: Withered

Poetry this time:

A heart, withered and scorched
Beats failing and weak
Floundering for air it lurches
And bumps
Along this fated journey
This dusty path
To a shore that no longer
Houses the traveler

Rhyming Resource

I’m writing a little poem for a birthday card and on this occasion, I am rhyming. A quick search found a great, free online resource for help finding rhyming words.

Rhyming isn’t very hard,
If you use this online tool,
I wish I had this to use,
When I was in grade school!

the time has come

to show my worth

to conquer all

and heal past hurts

moving forward

i shed my skin

and let the new

begin again
