About Eileen

So, you’ve decided to learn all about me, huh? Well, there is a lot to learn, so get a cup of coffee or tea and get comfy (but keep your pants on if you’re in public, please!). Here’s the boring stuff, hang in there, it will be over soon!

I have worked for the last 25 years of my life as an Accountant. I have a MS in Information Systems and Management with a concentration in Project Management. I am a State and Nationally certified project manager. I am an instructor of technology topics and crafting! I am what I like to call a ‘friendly introvert’. Which basically means I will talk to you if you talk to me first, if I can think of something to say. LOL!

Phew, now that the boring stuff is over with, let me tell you some fun stuff. I am (at the time of updating my bio) 41 years old. I have been a writer since I was 7, only finding the courage to attempt publication in recent years. I am a mother and a ‘significant other’, as well as devoted daughter and loving sister. My family is the most important thing in my life.

My passion for the written word has been a life-long endeavor. I was introduced to John Saul as a teenager and read everything of his I could get my hands on. As I got older, I read Jane Austen and fell in love with her style and characterization techniques. I love poetry by Walt Whitman and Billy Collins. I love science fiction by Ray Bradbury and Isaac Asimov. Fantasy is a genre I return to often, loving the works of J. R. R. Tolkein, Robert Jordan, Madeleine L’Engle, and Terry Brooks. There are so many wonderful authors and works out in the world, it makes me happy when I think about all the books I have yet to read.

In recent years, I have really been building my skill set, working hard to earn money to fund my writing, learning all I can about the craft of writing, independent publishing, and marketing. One resource I have found invaluable in my journey to make a living as a writer, has been Ms. Joanna Penn at The Creative Penn. I absolutely love her and have been listening to her podcast for many years as well as reading her blog, buying her books, and everything else I can gobble up. She is an amazing person in general, a wonderful author in her own right, and a very generous and giving person with her knowledge and resources. If you’re a writer of any kind, chances are you have heard of her. If not, you’re really missing out! So, thank you, Joanna, for all you do. I appreciate it, find it useful, and want it to continue.

Writing is something I have to do. It makes me feel whole. My writing contains my heart and soul. One of my favorite quotes is from Walter Wellesley “Red” Smith:

“There’s nothing to writing. All you do is sit down at a typewriter and open a vein.”
