Waking from a haze of darkness, Steven found himself in a walled room. There were no windows and he didn’t see a door, but the other side of the room lay in complete darkness. For all he knew, there could be someone else in the room with him and he would never know. He remained motionless for the first few moments, letting his eyes adjust to the gloom.
